Turkey, lobster, and a mullet

This is how the Behers do Thanksgiving. We are incredibly thankful for the life that we have, for our family, our friends, just generally the life we have been blessed with. So when it comes to Thanksgiving, we like to feast. Me, I like to feast on Turkey, exhibit "A". Miguel likes to feast on lobster, see exhibit "B". Oh and yes, I like to feast on dessert. I must attempt to satisfy my insatiable need for sweets. I might tell you that I am NOT the only one who has a sweet tooth in the household and we made no less than 4 desserts. Sam was up early enough to enjoy the fruits of my brownie making, spending most of the time licking the icing. We spent most of yesterday hanging out with each other and cooking. Which in our house is something we really enjoy doing. Let me give you a quick rundown of what we made, so your mouths can water jealously. Turkey, lobster salad, seafood couscous, loaded baked potato salad, bacon wrapped scallops, mashed potatoes, tiramisu, pumpkin pie, peanut butter pie, and brownies. Add to this my sister-in-law's food which included, southern dressing, mac'n'cheese, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, deviled eggs, and probably a couple of other things I am forgetting, we seriously feasted. Also let me introduce you to Miguel's cousin from the Florida Panhandle, Billy Shadow. We were happy to have him join us for our Thanksgiving, it's been quite awhile since we had the privilege of his company.
So that's how we "do" Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving '09 was a blast, can't wait for next year's feast.

Last minute escape to Hilton Head Island

Last week we decided on Wednesday evening to head to Hilton Head early Thursday morning. So after some quick reservations, laundry, and packing, we drove the short 4 1/2 hour drive down there. We, of course, had to stop at Cracker Barrel for breakfast. Nothing like lots of fat and starch when you're on a road trip. :) It really was a great 3 day trip. The beach and hotel were B-U-S-Y, but it was still very enjoyable. Katie enjoyed herself the most, although Sam fair loved the beach and pool too. He wasn't fond of the waves as they broke, but as long as he was at the shore line or actually in the water past where they broke, he was fine. Sam can actually doggy paddle if you hold him under his stomach. It is quite a thing to behold, watching this little 14 month old paddle around the pool. Kate, as you will notice, will not go in the water without her floatie and floatie vest. But she does quite well swimming around the pool by herself. Even being so brave as to swim around the deep end by herself. Yay Katie!!!We took the kids swimming at night after dinner, spent all day on the beach and by the pool, watched movies before bed, and had a couple of snacks out of the mini bar. Sometimes that $4 pack of M&Ms just hits the spot. Oh and on the way back, we stopped at this gas station we've stopped at before where they let you feed their animals. They have a bull, a cow, a couple of ostriches, a llama, goats, geese, and a donkey. :) So anyway, here are some pics from the trip, and a couple of videos.

Let's go back to New Year's Eve

So I never got to post about it because I came down with the flu on New Year's Eve. I was fine until very late into the evening, when I started to feel just icky. But anyway. We spent the evening with Miguel's family and had lots to drink. :) Is there really any more to say than that? The above picture was the first one of the New Year and it turned out pretty well. Even the subject looks decent (for as much as he had to drink already). LOL Alex and Connie made a yummy Chilean drink called Cola de mono. There were many other drinks too, but honestly I don't remember anymore. In any case, Sam and I woke up the next morning, sick as a dogs and not from alcohol. Spent the first 3 days of the New Year on the couch or in bed and I am only now feeling like myself. Not exactly my most favorite way to bring in the New Year, but hey maybe that way the rest of the year can only get better right? Right? I hope everyone had a delightful holiday. We had a relaxed one, and it was nice. We spent the afternoon shopping for shoes. :) And then we came home and had a cookout and waited around for the fireworks we can see from the house. It's great not to have to go anywhere for spectacular fireworks. Thank goodness for the well off people that like their fireworks at the country club. LOL Yesterday we went swimming, which of course Katie loved. She's going to be a fish like her mom. I can spend hours upon hours in a pool. In any case, hope you all had a great weekend. Oh and for all you moms out there, my 7 week old slept 8 hours last night. (This is the part where the angel choir comes out and sings "Hallelujah") I feel so much better today. Still slightly sleep deprived, but he slept from just about 10pm-6am for me. Probably a fluke, and I'll be on here again, grunting and complaining about being sleep deprived, but it was nice to have a break last night.
